The QuatroPlus project

Quatro Plus is a two year project sponsored by the Safer Internet Unit of the European Commission to promote quality labelling as a means of building trust and empowering end users to make their own decisions over the content they wish to access. This web site provides information and access to the full platform and tools developed by the project to achieve this goal. In addition, the website provides full information on quality labels and their use with examples and links to other related resources.

  • The Protocol for Web Description Resources (POWDER), closely related to the objectives of QUATRO Plus, became a W3C Recommendation on the 1st of September 2009.

  • Youth Panels from three countries, Greece, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic are participating in pilots which use the Quality Social Network (QSN) tool to label websites according to their suitability for children. For more information, you can view the recent Newsletter
  • The Adolescent Health Unit in Greece specialises in the treatment of eating disorders for youth. There are many websites which cover this subject – some provide helpful information for sufferers and parents whilst others may be considered harmful in that they promote conditions such as anorexia as a lifestyle choice and for example, provide advice on how to hide the condition (such sites are known as Pro Ana ). The AHU pilot aimed to create a white list of good sites with help from AHU experts and using content analysis technology. Via Content analysis techniques a white list of 65 resources was created.   • The Quatro Plus project had a Mid-Term Review in November and has received very positive feedback from the reviewers. One of the main recommendations is to focus upon child safety in keeping with the objectives of the Safer Internet Programme even though quality labels can have a much wider remit. With this in mind, the project are taking on a new partner, i-Sieve, who provide a filtering application based on language engineering and image processing called Filter-X.
